Thailand’s Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa remains a central component of the country’s strategy to attract defined groups of foreign nationals. As interest in the scheme grows, so has the number of service providers offering high-fee application assistance. In practice, these services are seldom required. The LTR system is designed to be transparent, rules-based, and fully manageable through an online platform.

The programme is open to four categories of applicants: Wealthy Global Citizens, Wealthy Pensioners, Work-from-Thailand Professionals, and Highly Skilled Professionals. A further advantage is the ability to include dependants under the principal applicant, with recent regulatory updates removing earlier limitations on the number of eligible family members.

For Wealthy Global Citizens, qualification is entirely numerical. Applicants must demonstrate at least USD 1 million in net assets and a minimum USD 500,000 investment in approved Thai instruments. These thresholds may overlap, and the supporting materials—such as bank statements, bond documents, share registers, or property titles—consist exclusively of financial evidence.

The Wealthy Pensioner pathway follows the same model. Individuals aged 50 or above must show passive income of USD 80,000 per year, or a lower income combined with an investment of at least USD 250,000 in Thailand. Assessment is again based on verifiable financial documentation rather than discretionary review.

The Work-from-Thailand Professional category introduces employment-related criteria. These may include employer revenue levels, income requirements, or alternative qualifications such as a master’s degree or intellectual property ownership. The documentation—employment agreements, company financials, and academic or IP records—is standard and typically already available to applicants.

Across all categories, the structure of the LTR scheme is consistent: it is an administrative process governed by objective criteria. The online system specifies the required documents and the applicable thresholds. Approvals depend solely on whether the evidence submitted satisfies those published requirements.

Despite this, some agencies continue to promote “guaranteed approvals” or “priority processing” at substantial cost. Applicants should be aware that no expedited channel exists. Processing timelines are fixed by the authorities, and there is no mechanism for preferential treatment. Unlike visa categories involving work permits or corporate restructuring, the LTR Visa does not require legal interpretation or complex regulatory navigation.

For individuals who meet the criteria, the most efficient and cost-effective approach is to apply directly through the official portal.
If you appear eligible, you may not need external assistance to secure the LTR Visa.
